HERE & NOW MEGAPOST by Dave Sez: go get, you won't regret!
For this eighth megapost for edo and y'all - Here & Now, the archetypal hippie/punk crossover band, formed in '74, gigged solid in '75-76, toured in '77-'78 both with Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth under the name Planet Gong and with punk pioneers Alternative TV. Psychedelic hippie punk, ya say? The attitude rather than the musical style was the common bond, and Here & Now certainly had that spirit, stalwarts at all the free festivals of the day, passing a hat around for donations for petrol and food. Always plagued by problems with record companies, many of the band's releases were limited-run vinyls or cassettes sold only at their gigs. As the band are now at last re-releasing some of their old recordings as remastered CDs, I will post only links to fan rips from the original vinyls and cassettes rather than 320 rips of the reissued CDs - go buy'em! Of all the bands out there, having given so much for free, Here & Now are definitely not the band to rip off now.
However, for those who've not heard of them before, I include in much better quality a sampler spanning their lengthy career - Dave Sez: go get, you won't regret! As always, please go and thank the original posters who gave us this music, and check the comments (and say thanks, hey!) for updates. This mega-post is dedicated to pinkpressthreat, Penguin of KYPP and Ernest Embryo whose generosity provided most of the records below.

«Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 230 Newer› Newest»Beautifully put together as ever..thanks Dave Sez & **edo**.I for one would love to see new material in the (hopefully very near) future;two of Here&Now's most recent recruits are Nik(Nimbus)Noodle (drums) and Slim Verhoef (guitar),both of Brighton psychonauts The Giant Eyes, whose Myspace page is:http://www.myspace.com/thegianteyes (Nimbus Noodle's Youtube channel, containing, amongst other delights, live performances from The Giant Eyes,is at http://www.youtube.com/user/nimbusthenoodle ).I like the punkier, harder-edged stuff and this latest line-up could be interesting.
Here & Now,with the release of those two remasters mentioned above by Dave Sez,have been in my thoughts alot recently..between 1981 when I first saw them, thru 1982/3/4 with those legendary Stonehenge festival performances,I saw them live many times. They were truly the people's band - overflowing with enough talent to blow just about everyone else away (imho),and demonstrating an attitude towards their audience that many bands today would do well to take note of.And they always had this fantastic,world-weary sense of humour..believe me they needed it at times! "Floating Anarchy" to me was a similar message in some respects (different in others..!) to the one Crass were trying to communicate back then, and, like Crass, they had a major effect on a grass-roots level- anarchy in action. The message was about living for today..THIS moment NOW..hence the name, a political statement in itself.
Thanks again-what a great blog ;)
I am intrigued & am dling Dave's sampler as I type. Thanks, guys!
And already there's some more: thanks to pinkpressthreat again, you can enjoy the classic "Dog In Hell" EP from 1978 in m4a format (use VLC) here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XNCN509E
Cover at the top of the megapost.
Cheers, Dave Sez.
As the band got ripped off on royalties by Charly, their first record label, I guess there's no harm pointing you this way for the Live Floating Anarchy 1977 album as a CD rip @ 320:
http://ernestembryo.blogspot.com/2009/08/planet-gong-live-floating-anarchy.html
Thanks Ernest! Cheers, Dave Sez.
Apologies to Ernest Embryo for not being able to give the link to this megapost in the comments to your blog - I keep getting a black window as my message preview and text captcha, so I can't leave a comment. Strange, it worked before ... if any reader visits his posts listed above, could you drop the link to this megapost into the comments there so that his readers can find their way here too? Thanks in advance, Dave Sez.
I already have all of this but thanks for spreading the word about this wonderful band. I have "Off The Cuff" on cd,how do I get a copy to you?
Here & Now - Gospel of Free

Good one, pinkie, from the heart and heart-felt. Couldn't say it better meself, these guys were special to me/us/and soon (let's hope) them. If ya don't know'em, have a listen, you won't regret .. and the feedback from the new line-up seems to be great! Cheers and ta muchly for the help, pinkie, and t'edo too for the hospitality, Dave Sez.
Wha-ho, this is goin' ta be a good if snowbound Xmas. First up, devotionalhooligan, glad to see you here - thanks for ya stuff and hope you find something you were looking for!
And, dlz1965, really excited ! This looks like a bumper *Christ*mas - it would be fantastic if you could get a digital copy of "Off The Cuff" to us all! First, rip the CD @320 to mp3 files (with your program, in Settings - Extract, choose 320 kbps). Then use free WinRar (www.winrar.com) to compress the file to a .rar file. WinRar claims an expiry period; in reality, it never expires, just throws up a reminder each time. Click to ignore. Then go to www.megaupload.com, Upload (top line), navigate to your .rar file, leave a description (bottom line line, I suggest "Eternal thanks dlz1965 for Off The Cuff" or some such guff, since you can write anything), click Upload and wait a couple'a'hours .. and wait and wait .. patience, patience, don't cut ya connection .. Then Megaupload tells ya it's done and gives you a download link. Copy and save it preciously (I do a .txt file)! Before adding it here in the comments, to make sure your Megaupload post is activated for 90 days, after uploading it, be the first to re-download it. Once ya got it back again, then post it here in the comments - that way, your post is tried and tested .. if you could make the effort, we'd really appreciate it, a grand addition to this community blog thang! Ya need more help, just ask, ya got rare goods there and we'd all like to hear .. cheers, Dave Sez.
Not posting them as band deserve the money: Wild & Free, Rivington Pike, Bristol Gardens, Oxford Poly, and the band as ICI MAINTENANTS album and additional track available. Love & Light:)
http://www.freeloverecords.co.uk/
I forgot to mention that recent band releases can be found at http://www.freeloverecords.co.uk/; thanks to devotionalhooligan's great blog for reminding me. Cheers, Dave Sez.
@dlz1965:As Dave Sez,ahem, sez,we would appreciate it so much if you could post "Off The Cuff" - it's one I'm missing, and I'm not the only one,so it'd be fantastic if you could.(and @320 please,as Dave mentioned). All these little gems hiding away,eh? cheers & Merry Xmas/Happy New Year ;) (any uploading problems just ask ok?)
I quite agree with elmoono, therefore won't post any current releases from the band - there's also plenty of good stuff out there which is not officially available, and here comes one now:

Hal's blog on the Cantebury scene is an unrivalled source for all things Gongesque - go thank the man!
Cheers, Dave Sez.
If someone wants to give me their e-mail or home address,i'll gladly burn copies of "Off The Cuf" for you. I've tried uploading stuff before and always make a complete ckuf up of it. I have "Standing Forever" ep from 1989 and "Live Floating Anarchy 1991" (Planet Gong). I also trade live bootlegs and have more than 50 Here & Now shows if anyone is interested.
Ya f***in' dancer!!
I'd love "Off the Cuff" please m8.Contact me at tulip.65@hotmail.co.uk and I'll give you an address to send it to.I'll pay your postage of course and send you something if you like (we'll see if I have anything you're after ok?) cheers :)
Thanks a million dlz1965 for offering us this - the sharing is what makes blogging worthwhile! And thanks to pinkie for handling it - it'll no doubt appear as a download in these comments pretty soon! Cheers and ho-ho-ho, Dave Sez.
PS: To return the gift, dlz1965, if there's anything you would like, feel free to ask pinkpressthreat, he'll copy your mails to me and anything in my archive will be upped for you ...
Hey pinkpressthreat,check your e-mail in-box.
Well Mr.Anonymous, you do have a temper. Why don't you chill out as i'm doing my best to get "Off The Cuff" into circulation. I'm assuming you do actually want a copy?
I think there must be some misunderstanding, dlz1965 - I presume by your reference to Mr Anonymous, you mean the comment above "Ya f***in' dancer!". I had to have it explained to me too - it's from the film Trainspotting, and actually is a compliment meaning you're terrific - which you are indeed for kindly offering us this rare Here & Now. Hope that clears it up, cheers Dave Sez.
Shit!! really sorry dlz1965!! You weren't to know..heheh quite funny though! Cheers mate ;)
Mercy buckets, Dave Sez.
"Ya f@ckin' dancer!", indeed. A veritable treat and a festive labour of love.
Nice one... thats a pretty extensive list there :) I'll stick a link to this mega-post on my Here & Now blog posts if you have no objections.
Thanks again :)
(and a cheers to pinkpressthreat for letting me know about it)
It shouldn't be too long before we have "Off The Cuff", "Standing Forever" ep from 1989 and "Live Floating Anarchy 1991" (courtesy of dlz1965)! I suggest people drop in to this comments section from time to time in the new year ;)
Ernest, I'd be delighted for you to link here; I did try to leave a link but your comments wouldn't show me the captcha (black background?), so pinkie did it for me. Without your posts, this wouldn't have been so extensive a list ... And, on top of the goodies from dlz1965, there should be something else quite sensational coming tonight, so check back soon ...
And what could be more exciting than the raw tape used to produce much of the Planet Gong 1977 live LP?

Hi Dave,
I've set my Poet For Sale rip back to public for your enjoyment.
Thanks Dave for the '77 Gong and ta Mick for the Daevid Allen ;)
Thanks, Mick - much appreciated! And thanks ib for dropping in. Cheers, Dave Sez.
Thanks for the PG '77 and the rip of WYSIWYA, you've really made my day.
I could never afford to throw much in the hat as a skint teenager back in the day so it was great to read about the Esoteric re-releases, hopefully they'll finally get a few quid for the pleasure they've given me over the years.
Must say the whole of this site's a treasure trove so hats off to everyone who's taken the time to make all this stuff available.

Thanks again dlz1965.He tells me that "Live Floating Anarchy 1991" is temporarily buried amongst boxes and binliners after a house-move,and will be forthcoming!!
Enjoy ;)
Hope this aint too "trainspotter-ish",but "Off The Cuff" CD1 is the Live improvisation from the 6 & 7 Here & Now free tours, and CD2 is the Live improvisation from the Fishbach Festival, Lake Constance, Germany. That's cleared that up then (!) I know it's all on the website/links,but I just thought I'd repeat it here.Btw,what a contrast between '79 & @89,eh? (I like 'em both!).

**edo** - Thanks, and happy New Year from Pinkie ;)
If anyone wonders why I deleted a comment above-I only just noticed that I basically posted the same(slightly different) comment and links twice on 4th Jan..you guys were too polite to point it out I guess,or just skipped it!! I'll admit it..I was pretty out of it that day heheh
Anyway I was just dropping by again to mention that Here & Now are soon to begin their "Mad March" U.K, tour, supported by,amongst others,Eat Static and Skip McDonald of Tackhead/On-U Sound/Little Axe..can't wait!!
All the details are here: http://www.scraprecords.com/
The Bournmouth and London gigs got double-booked,so the London one will be on Sat.April 3rd (Venue tbc)and Nik,the current H&N drummer, told me that there might be a second London gig.I'll be at Brighton,my home town, and at least one of those London ones.Cheers all,and apologies for the drunken double posting!
People asked for this on your blog and I have a copy. Click on the link below:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KVQ67TX6
Also I tried to download, 'Theatre' but something wrong with the link. Any chance of a re-up?
Thought ici Maintenants would be another useful addition, Space & Time:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZJPHDF68
Previous link from me is Planet Gong, Live Floating Anarchy '91. Both cd rips @ 320.
Great blog by the way. Thanks.
hey Tcarted, thanks for contributing to what has become an amazing post!!
Thanks very much Tcarted;if you're reading this,dlz1965,you don't need to worry about digging around in the attic now!
And here's a re-up of "Theatre" (Still in the M4a format) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0DSHQAAR
Cheers, and thanks for providing the opportunity for us all ;)
Dave Sez wanted someone to split the H&N - Peel session away from the rest. See his comment above "1 mp3, 60 mins, Here & Now start at 39:30 -http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?tbpsby1hcxlthbc. If anyone could help with an mp3 splitter, leave a comment below."
Well I managed to do just that. Follow this link and listen to Here & Now without Boomtown Rats etc..
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9SSUMRNZ
Thanks to edo for hosting and thanks to pinkpressthreat for re-upping 'Theatre' - worked a treat.
Well, tcarted, what a welcome home - as I said before, a real nice groove we've got going here, thanks to edo's hospitality! Now back from the wetlands, and a serious tip of the potbellied pixie hat ta ya for Floating Anarchy '91 and for the Peel split I'd asked for a while back - going and gettin' both as I speak/write. Ask and you shall receive .. and glad pinkie could help you out with Theatre. Anything else you'd like, I'm watching this space, just let me know and cheers matey, Dave Sez.
Ta muchissimo, pinkie, for Off The Cuff - just had time to go and get it and can't wait to listen to it! By the way, the link to the Standing Forever 12" is down; any chance of a re-up, matey? Cheers, Dave Sez.
And here's one that's just surfaced, thanks to rincew!

Cheers, Dave Sez.
OK Dave, and everyone else, here's the new link for "Standing Forever":
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D7ASDQHT
Apologies for this, and "Theatre" going down temporarily..Mistakenly taken down by myself, nothing to do with the Megaupload people(Duuh!) - won't happen again!
If you wanna put "Theatre" back where the original is,Dave,to avoid confusion,go ahead mate!
Ta for Standing Forever, pinkie, and let's leave the new Theatre link you've provided as it works fine! By the by, If anyone wants to check the quality of the above H&N Leeds audience recording before hauling down the FLAC download (I've never really been sure FLAC is worth it for most audience recordings), then you can listen to a wma version at:
http://tela.sugarmegs.org/alpha/h.html
or direct download:
http://www.archive.org/serve/HereAndNow1989-05-16LeedsUK/HereAndNow1989-05-16LeedsUK.wma
I'm listening to the wma version now - a B+, enjoyable but not sure FLAC would improve it much, so I may not get the lossless version, but hey, now you've got the choice!
Cheers, Dave Sez.
And another one for the Big Pink'Un:

And artefact is at it again, bless his little cotton socks. Go find him and thank him here:
http://www.guitars101.com/forums/f90/here-and-now-live-at-the-witchwood-ashton-under-lyne-14-may-1992-a-113822.html
Cheers, Dave Sez.
Dave Sez, I can't get the last 2 posts on guitars101.com. The hotfile link is down and fileserve does not like me; not at all! Says I've failed too many captchas?? I never normally download from fileserve so no idea why it's saying that. Can anyone help/advise or re-up on something I can use - mediafire or megaupload? Sorry to clog up the posts with technical sh*t.
Hi, tcarted, no problem raising technical issues here - the aim is to get the music to you, so anything it takes ... you're not the only one having this issue with fileserve (unless you are DJ PIGG) - see in the comments to the post below for a couple of fixes I've suggested that may or may not work:
http://darkcircleroom.blogspot.com/2011/02/gang-of-four-sessions-2011-flac.html
In the meanwhile, you can get the wma version of Leeds 1989 - as I say above, I'm really not sure that FLAC is worth it for that recording, and the files are too big for me to re-up elsewhere. However, as you're a kind soul, I shall go and get the witchwood-ashton-under-lyne for you, and re-up here to megaupload for ya - watch this space.
Cheers, Dave Sez.
Oh and a PS: if it's not too much trouble, any chance of a re-split of the Peel session, as there's still other stuff on the end? Be nice to have a clean copy ...
Here we go, tcarted, Witchwood 14.05.92:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KKDQK9LI
Cheers, Dave Sez.
Witchwood worked a treat and thanks for advice. I shall try the downloader in future.
I thought I had done something wrong when splitting the Peel session so I downloaded it again. Instead of splitting it this time I opened it in VLC, scrolled to the end and unfortunately it does cut too early. I have downloaded it 4 times and I get the same result on my mac and my girl-friend's PC. Could you check the one you downloaded? The duration says I have 1 hour's worth but apparently not the end??
Can other downloaders confirm they have a 'clean copy' from the same source? Sorry about this Dave Sez. I thought it would be pretty straightforward to split it...
If anyone else wants to try it I did this - in iTunes, right click on the song you want, go to Get Info > Options (tab) and adjust the start and end times, making sure you check the boxes. Click OK. The song will play like that, but it can be un-configured so it plays all the way through at a later date. Right click on the file, and do Convert to MP3 (or whatever format you want). It will create a new file, to the length you configured.
Hi tcarted and thanks for your efforts on the H&N splitting. My point was not that it had been cut off short, on the contrary. The H&N session only lasts 16:29, not right to the end of the 60 min mp3 I uploaded, so there's still 3 mins of BBC6 announcements etc at the end of your split segment. As far as I can make out the timing, Here & Now start at 39:30 and end (best cut) at 56:04 just after the jerko DJ says "That was Here & Now, live", leaving off "for John Peel in November 1978" as that segues straight into another bit of music. If you can be bothered to do another iTunes split, cutting off the end announcments too, that would be great - bleedin' archivist that I am, but this does seem to be the only version of their Peel session out there, so t'would be good to get it perfect. Let me know if the downloader works (here); if not, I'll up the Iron Door Birkenhead onto megaupload for you. Cheers for now, Dave Sez.
Nothin' wrong with being an archivist and a perfectionist. Sorry about the mix up. Should be as you wanted it now - find it here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7Y6531P8
Downloader didn't work; kept repeating message; same message as site - 'too many captchas'. Would be grateful for re-up of Iron Door Birkenhead.
Still wish I could do a better job on that Peel session. There's an annoying ad between Tracks 1 & 2!! Maybe try again later in week.
Perfect, tcarted, ta muchissimo! Hadn't spotted the annoying advert, but I'm already very happy with this latest one - if you loop it, you get a spacey echo at the junction of end and beginning .. "Here & Now live .. Here & Now ...". If ya can be arsed to try and edit out the ad, go for it; if you've got better things to do, then do'em .. meanwhile, I'll re-up Iron Door for you .. just not tonight as I'm on a hotel connection and some ****** is already on megaupload, probably downloading Rambo 6 or similar shyte ... Iron Door coming your way soon! Cheers and thanks for your contributions, eh! Dave Sez.
Here ya go, tcarted, Iron Door ...
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VUO2DYNS
Absolutely brilliant!!!! I have found more stuff here than I have in years!! Thanks for all of you who have uploaded this history.I miss living in a bus!!!!!!!!!!
@ Anonymous ex-bus dweller - I'm chuffed to f**K you're chuffed to f**k..!!
Thanks PP, do you know where i can find the 'Dog in hell' EP?
Ex-bus dweller again.........can i put links up for torrents here??
Youngmosstongue offers us an alternative WYSIWYG @ 320:
http://youngmosstongue.blogspot.com/2011/01/alternative-tvhere-now-what-you-see-is.html
and the 'Dog in hell' EP is linked above and also packaged with the new Give & Take CD.
Cheers, Dave Sez.
Hi ex-bus dweller, we'll have to see what edo says about putting up torrents on his blog, but I'd be grateful for any unreleased material you might have! However, it might be better for the many people who are not torrenters (myself included) if you could go get the torrents for us and re-up them, say on megaupload as pinkie and I do? Either way, glad to hear you're enjoying the megapost, cheers Dave Sez.
Hi Guys, I've been AWOL for a while with computer probs and am happy to see you have all been beavering away with this fantastic Here & Now stuff. If anyone is interested,i've just transferred The Entire Cosmos 1981 cassette to CD(this is the band formed by H&N roadie JB and features H&N alumni Keith/Steffe/Gavin/Dino/Gary Maughn/Rob Bougie amongst others). If anyone out there has access to Dimeadozen, loads more H&N/Planet Gong bootlegs have appeared in the past few weeks and i'm sure many reading this would love to have 'em. Please help!
Huge tip o' the hat to Pinkie & Dave Sez for all your fine work.
man you guys are amazing- thanks for making this into a beast of a post- especially Dave Sez who started this all!! cheers guys...
Nice to see you back, dlz1965! And thanks to you and edo for your thanks - mine must go to all of you who have contributed to making this a carin' sharin' community, just what I hoped for when I started the megaposts. This one looks like it's going to be the first to cross the 100-comments line - we'll have to have an online booze-up when that happens ! And yes, dlz1965, I'd love to hear The Entire Cosmos; I'd not heard of them before and it sounds really good. Maybe send a CD to pinkie for him to up here, like before? Ta muchly in advance, cheers Dave Sez.
I'll put the "Dog in Hell" e.p.back up tonight..it was taken down accidentally(along with the other one I mentioned above) by yours truly and I've forgotten to re-up.Soz about that - btw I'll put it up @320 as well in case people prefer, and I'll do the same with the other M4a files up there.(I've got a file converter thingamyjig!).As soon as I've done them I'll put 'em straight up,ok? (tonight) Cheers all ;)
Whoopee, ta muchly pinkie - I would really like Theatre and Stolen Moments in 320! And for dlz1965, I share your frustration not being a torrenter - maybe ex-bus dweller will be kind enough to go and get the stuff for us all and re-up 'em ??? Meanwhile, the only channel I know of for dime stuff to surface on megauplaod, rapidshit etc is guitars101 mentioned above ... keep an eye out there, and let us all know if you spot something, eh? Feel (floating) free to put a link to the relevant page in the comments here ... cheers me dears, Dave Sez.
Ta muchly pinkie for the effort but it got a little boxolled ;-) in the process - the Stolen Moments link is invalid and Theatre is only 12 MB - at 39 MB Dog in Hell looks fine though. Any time you have the time, m8e ... giggles, Dave Sez.
For fucksake! What's the matter with me! The "Stolen Moments" link was my bloody login! I said I'd keep it together, didn't I ?!
Also I have realised that I converted them into WMA files and not MP3..I'm so sorry.I have the right link for "Stolen moments" but,as I say,it's WMA.Do you think I should delete my last Comment to avoid confusion,or will that make it worse? I'll do all three as MP3 a.s.a.p. and apologies again - I never said I was brilliant at this stuff!100 comments here me come m8!
I did decide to delete,Dave,as none of the three I put up were correct.I don't have much time tonight, but I converted "Stolen Moments" and the file size was only 20.3Mb unzipped...now even "Standing Forever" was over 25Mb @320 unzipped.
Doesn't sound right to me and I'm not gonna fuck this up again. At least we still have them up as M4a until I find out what I'm doing wrong!Apologies once again - when they are all three done properly I promise you'll get them :)
OK this is "Dog In Hell" and it IS @320 and it IS 39Mb...Dave Sez was right-the other two I will sort out v.soon @320 from M4a
How do I know this one was right all along? Because I've used my WMP to do it and the three tracks came straight from the remastered CD!! (I know we said we wouldn't but it's not like I put the whole album up there is it?)
So here it is:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z0NIPTIY
I feel very conscious about clogging these shouts with my incompetence and I do apologise to y'all. At least we have everything now and it's just a matter of giving people a choice of format. If DLZ1965 still wants to post that stuff to me I'll put it up..no messin' just a straight upload ;)
Hi Pinkie
I'll get The Entire Cosmos to you if you can send me your address again as my recent computer crash has wiped lots of info including your e-mail address.
Dave Sez has a late night off, and, wah hey! the H&N post is buzzin' electric! First up, dlz, I got your list before I left the snow for the wetlands and, apologies, only now am perusing ... talk to you soon, and thanks indeed for the offer of Entire Cosmos - bended knee, tug o'tha forelock, and don't forget, you've already got a golden ticket to the archive you'll let me know, anything I have is yours ...
And pinkie, no matter how long it takes ta get it out, y'always do .. love the sharin' o' tha post! So, in my bes' 'Cots', dinna fret, laddie! Ya comin' through!
Och aye the noo and ya sporran too, Dave Sez.
Cheers Dave. Just getting that Live version you mentioned. Thanks again.
Hey, Dave, et al,
I decided to go and ask my mate on Last.FM to do the "MP3-ifying" for me, and, bless 'im, he came straight up wiv the goods.
"Theatre" @320 (58.38 MB) :
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=39XAVDI9
and "Stolen Moments" @320 (95.44 MB):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7A1REPBC
That's more like it, eh Dave? Cheers, mate, for bein' my shrink!
And dlz1965, my e-mail is: tulip.65@hotmail.co.uk
I'll give you my address again and we'll get some more goodies up here on this "mega-to-tha-power-something post-by Dave Sez", yeah?
Now to put on my best Punch voice, pinkie, and to say: "that's the way to do it"! Ta muchly, Dave Sez.
PS: and the only thing that needs shrinking are those flares you keep wearing .. damn hippies {;-)
Thanks for the MP3 conversions, excellent work!!!!
Ex-BusDweller (EBD for future reference!)
Glad to be of service,EBD. Cheers, Dave heheh - Wednesday night at Brighton Coalition Club, Here & Now will be headlining. Should be interesting. Somehow it won't be the the same, not being draped over a monitor, spliff-in-hand, but I just wanna see a good performance, and, as I said about 50 shouts ago, I'm kind of excited about this current line-up.
I'll try and film some of it and upload somewhere for your edification, chaps!! Cheers, all ;)
And a little treat for a sunny day, though slightly off the H&N subject: potbellied pixies won't want to miss these two SBD FLAC recordings:
http://soundaboard.blogspot.com/search/label/Steve%20Hillage
Cheers me dears, Dave Sez.
Great to come across all these downloads - I used to have a box full of live tapes of H&N - but god knows where they all are now...
Anyway.. did anyone ever get around to uploading the Entire Cosmos tape - I bought it at Stonehenge in 84 and lost it somewhere down the line.. but still have a few of the tunes going through my head even though i've not heard it for 15 or 20 yrs!
cheers
John
@JohnnyM - I'm just waiting for "The Entire Cosmos" to arrive in the post from dlz1965, and as soon as it does I shall upload it for yer edification ;)
I have never heard ''the entire cosmos''.....i look forward to that!
EBD
The Entire Cosmos were.. er.. pretty loose and raw.. but very entertaining.. proper acid punk :)
Thanks for the info, JohnnyM - I'm right curious about this one and thanks to dlz1965 for putting us on to it. And, Abitofchange23, I wanted to be the first to leave a comment on your blog, but you don't allow us anonymous wallahs to leave comments, so I'll say it here: welcome, and put up whatever you fancy, I'm sure we'll like it! Cheers, Dave Sez.
Try this one - it's Here & Now from The Wasted Punk Festival of 2004 in Morecambe. It was uploaded to Dime by kashi63 (2011.02.07). No artwork unfortunately.
So thanks on our behalf to him and do check out his text file attached in the download for information.
It's meant to be kept lossless but this site prefers mp3 @320 so here goes.
I also converted the video vob files to avi - see if they work for you.
Follow the link here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4YLG1K80
Enjoy!
To Dave sez, I had to change my blog so use the one from this post
Was the wasted punk festival (post a few up) put on by Darren Russell? I used to trade tapes with him in the mid/late 80s - as well as H&N he was really into punk/hardcore and used to put loads of gigs on - he laterly did the Holidays in the Sun festival in Blackpool.. Rob Ayling was another guy I used to swap tapes with - he now runs Voiceprint records - which is just dodgy tapes on a bigger scale!
Huge thanks to tcarted for the Wasted Fest link. I'll split the tracks and create some artwork which I can then send to Pinkie for uploading. I'll also send the Entire Cosmos as promised early next week.
Other recent H&N Dimeadozen uploads are Birkenhead 28/04/90 and Crewe 27/05/03 which i would love to hear.
Cheers All!
Hello, everyone :)
I'll get on to those uploads as soon as I've got everything - Oh God the responsibility heheh.
I'm glad that in some cases we have lossless and MP3 as well, just to give people a choice. I s'pose it doesn't make as much difference with a live cassette,or audience recording, but when it comes to sound quality I do understand the preference for lossless - esp Flac (imo). I got Killing Joke's debut in FLAC recently and it's fan-bloody-tastic; but there's hard-drive space to consider for some I guess - those M4a files are huge but sound great!
Anyway, pinkie's rambling again - be back soon with the uploads (cheers, dlz).
No problem dlz1965. I can help you out with Crewe 27.05.03. Grabbed it from Dime again & converted it to mp3 @ 320. Thanks to original uploader - noden (dimeadozen.org).
Here's the link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?p9ho83wutdl0omy
I'll have a look for the Birkenhead 1990 one tomorrow. Some of the links are dead though so can't promise anything...
2 Birkenhead versions are already on this site but they are both from the Iron Door, Birkenhead, 21st May 2003 (6 days beofre the Limelight Club, Crewe I put up earlier!)
Dave Sez put these up:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VUO2DYNS
http://www.guitars101.com/forums/f90/here-and-now-live-at-the-iron-door-birkenhead-21-may-2003-a-114222.html
I was curious why I missed H&N Birkenhead28/04/90. Couldn't see it. Let me know where to find it, yeah?
This mega post has turned into quite an amazing resource for Here & Now tunes, thanks so much Dave Sez for kicking this off in the first place!! and of course thanks to everyone else who've contributed to this outstanding post!
Indeed, edo, I'd never hoped that we'd have so many people contributing - wa-hay!
Ta muchly to all of you, and here's a Sunday bonus of more obscure H&N-related recordings. In '79 Kif Kif set up Street Level Studios and Fuck Off Records to record and release several H&N/ATV spin-offs, such as his own The 012 (Kif-Kif on guitar/vocals, Grant Showbiz on bass - the predecessor to World Domination Enterprises), and also The Hamburger All Stars (Anno Wombat, Mark and Dennis from ATV, Steffy from H&N, Justin Adams from Impossible Dreamers and Grant Showbiz). The various vinyls and cassettes are all now out of print ... but not unavailable, thanks to Nick Allison's marvellous site Die Or DIY, devoted to UK DIY output. So, get the Hamburger All Stars (my recommendation) here:
http://dieordiy.blogspot.com/2009/11/various-love-not-devotion-fuck-off.html
and The 012's album (not so good, IMHO) here:
http://dieordiy.blogspot.com/2009/10/012-lets-get-professional-flicknife.html
and two The 012 tracks here (on Part 3, no need for the others if you don't want'em):
http://dieordiy.blogspot.com/2009/10/angst-in-my-pants-ep-deleted-records.html
another The 012 track here:
http://dieordiy.blogspot.com/2009/11/various-we-couldnt-agree-on-title.html
one more The 012 track here with an intro text about Street Level/Fuck Off:
http://dieordiy.blogspot.com/2009/10/weird-noise-ep-fuck-off-records-fep-001.html
and even a rough live version of Opium by Planet Gong (side 2, starts 34:15) "recorded somewhere in France, poor quality, don't buy it just for this track", with bits of ATV, the excellent Blank Space and The Astronauts (both regular support bands for H&N), on Fuck Off's compilation tape, Back To Sing For Free Again Soon:
http://legalisevimto.blogspot.com/
Search the Die Or DIY site for rarissimo Androids of Mu, The Door and The Window, Good Missionaries, etc, and for fans of Fast Records and Joy Division, don't miss Earcoms 1 - 3, no. 3 being the first DAF recording:
http://dieordiy.blogspot.com/2009/11/various-earcom-1-2-3-fast-product-1979.html
Right, that'll keep you busy {;-) cheers Dave Sez.
PS: post no. 98 - got your Thunderbird Wine ready?
Hey dlz I found Birkenhead 28/04/90 on Dime. Tried to download it this morning. Link seems to be dead no peers or seeders!!
Will keep an eye on it. Any other sources?
In the mean-time here are some links to follow for Gongwalls 2007:
First Here & Now:
http://www.mediafire.com/?in388ek9ygfyi33
Next Planet Gong set:
http://www.mediafire.com/?myorb0inyc50qw2
DVD available to download on Dime. Thanks to kashi63. I didn't d/load DVD as it takes forever. Please check kashi63's text file as he notes track 11 is missing on the PG set - Ali Baba. Instead he put in track 99, Ali Baba from another source. That's bootz for ya!
Where is everyone? How was the Brighton show pinkie?
PS: Re The Hamburger All Stars:
Just found some text about the ultra-rare Alternative TV single on Nice Records free with the Italian alternative magazine Red Ronnies Bazar in 1980:
"Alternative TV live at the Meanwhile Gardens Free Festival in August 1978. Alternative TV’s performance captures the band during the period of transition between ‘The Image Has Cracked’ and ‘Vibing Up The Senile Man’. Drummer Chris Bennett had been sacked a month before the gig and it was the first time the ‘Vibing’ material was played live, although ‘Release The Natives’ and ‘The Good Missionary’ were premiered the previous month on the John Peel show. Here & Now guitarist, Steffie Sharpstrings, helps out on drums for a couple of the songs".
The 3 live tracks were later re-released on ATV's "Live '78" CD on Overground Records. Peel attended the Meanwhile Gardens Free Festival, met H&N there and arranged a Peel session for them, recorded in November '78.
So Steffy's probably on drums in the Hamburger All Stars ... and Blue Midnight are great! Cheers, Dave Sez.
And before anyone asks, the ATV Red Ronnie's Bazar single with Steffy on drums is here, thanks to penguin again:
http://killyourpetpuppy.co.uk/news/?p=722
Wa-hey, comment no. 100! Now I have an excuse to uncork that bottle, so it's raise ya glasses time, folks, and cheers me dears, Dave Sez.
And it never rains, it pours (luckily for us). Those who liked both sides of the ATV/H&N live '78 LP equally (that's me) won't want to miss another ATV recording during the same tour:
Alternative TV - Is there still life in Southend EP (1978)
Nasty Little Lonely/ Still Life / Fellow Sufferer / Viva La Rock'n'Roll
"Actually, this is not an official EP, but 4 songs played in Southend (UK) during the tour Alternative TV did with Here & Now, taken from an LP called Live 1978 on Overground Records whose quality of recording of the various venues was uneven. The recording of the show played at Southend was far the best of the lot, and I think the 4 songs from this set would have benefited to be edited separately. This is what I've done here, with a self-made cover, so don't try to buy it on the web, this is fake."
http://dkandroughmix-forgottensongs.blogspot.com/2009/09/alternative-tv-is-there-still-life-in.html
Cheers, Dave Sez.
Jesus H! This post is now officially freaking me out (in a very, very good way!).
Dave Sez - I've said it before - you, my friend, are a legend!! I can't believe what you've come up with here!
I was at the Coalition, Brighton, on Wednesday..after H&N had finished their set I was outside, having a smoke, and realised that the guy stood next to me was Keith tha Missile Bass!
I tried not to chew his earhole off too much, but did let him know about this post, and said I'd get the link to him sometime. He seemed pretty chuffed actually ;)
Thanks everyone - especially Dave Sez and of course Edo.
What's this now..103? or 104? Heheheh
Cheers Tcarted for the Gongwalls links. As for the Brighton gig, a few mates of mine went there and said it was ok, each band only plays a few songs though. I haven't got to see H&N for years so am hoping to get to see them this year
The Here & Now Peel session as broadcast on BBC Radio6 is missing a short but amusing track. If anyone is missing it I can post it - I have a cassette I made of the 1978 broadcast. I also have 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Entire Cosmos' C60 cassette which I can post as well. I haven't split the tracks yet... but soon. And for die-hard 012 fans (are there any?) I have the 'Heart Noise Heart' cassette. JC.
Hello..
As promised from dlz1965, we have "The Entire Cosmos":
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DY9K8TMW
And "Wasted Festival 2004" :
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z5AWWUMV
I'm slightly stoned but I think I got these right (!)
Thanks very much, mate ;)
btw, Abitofchange23, your friends were right; the gig on Wednesday was very brief due to the schedule..but it was a good night; very entertaining. At one point a line of gorgeous ladies entertained us all with the Can-Can!! And outside you had stilt-walkers spitting flame into the night sky.
Well worth £12 if you ask me!
I heard that an old mate/enemy of mine had dropped in..if so - hello Jim,hope you're well, mate - Rob said he gave you the link.
Further to my post yesterday, here's the Here & Now Peel Session from 1978, all four tracks, not just the three rebroadcast on BBC 6Music.
http://www.mediafire.com/?urdoc11884p5qp7
JC.
Thanks a million, tcarted, dlz1965 and pinkie for getting the Entire Cosmos (another Fuck Off tape, I see) and Wasted Festival up! And thanks pinkie for mentioning the megapost to Keith at the gig; please do get the link to him, it would be great to have him dropping in to find that H&N fans are keeping all those rare and out-of-print recordings in circulation. Cheers for now, Dave Sez.
I think a few people here will be interested in this great new band featuring ex-Here & Now guys Steffe & Steve Cassidy. Follow the link below.
http://guruubu.soundawesome.com/
Another source for the ATV/Good Missionaries Fuck Off tape is the always reliable penguin:
http://killyourpetpuppy.co.uk/news/?p=376
Thanks penguin, and nice to see that Nick Allison of Die Or DIY has found us here ... cheers, Dave Sez.
Ta muchly tcarted for Gongwalls, enjoying listening to it now! And thanks indeed JC for putting up the full Peel session - can't wait to hear the amusing track ...
And whilst we're at it, another source for the "Back To Sing For Free Again Soon" tape mentioned above, including pictures of the tape itself (!), is here, thanks to RVD:
http://spurensicherung.blogspot.com/2007/06/back-to-sing-for-free-danny-and.html.
Cheers me dears, Dave Sez.
Thanks ever so much for the Peel Session in full, JC.
Dave Sez - I tried to say "ta" on the D.I.Y.orDie blog too and for some reason I couldn't leave a shout either..puzzling!
And btw I'll definitely get the link for this post to Keith, as soon as Nik Noodle gets in touch and I give him the details to pass on. I think he'll be pleasantly surprised, the old devil ;)
Hope the uploads were ok on my last comment (any probs let me know, ok?) - dlz1965 kindly knocked some artwork together; cheers for that, mate! Bye for now everyone.
PPT, are you referring to me as the mate/enemy??!!!!!!!!!
@ Abitofchange23 If that's who I think it is, and I may be mistaken, then definitely as a mate!! And a fantastic drummer too.
When I said Mate/enemy, I meant that we were both in love with the same girl back in 1983/4..!! A certain tatooed female with a penchant for Vodka??
Now I remember her ... hehheh, Dave Sez.
FYI, another one bites the dust ... after hotfile's massacre ... sigh!
Cheers, Dave Sez.

And penguin comes up with more Astronauts and a post on The 012:
http://killyourpetpuppy.co.uk/news/?p=380
http://killyourpetpuppy.co.uk/news/?p=365
Thanks, penguin! Cheers, Dave Sez.
Good work on ENTIRE COSMOS up load.
Re: ALL OVER THE SHOW - I'm not sure the band get any royalties from the re-release.. there was talk of Keith & Steffy ( I think) doing a properly mastered version (i.e. not speeded up like the album) plus other stuff from those tours - which would indeed be smart as pants - but it seems to have disappeared... shame as it'd be great to hear those tapes...
Something to listen to and watch!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfdJtPoav30
And, still pursuing the Street Level/Fuck Off/bands that played with Here & Now theme, mea culpa for not previously noticing the massive amount of work done by penguin of killyourpetpuppy (KYPP) and devotionalhooligan on groups like folk-punk greats, the Astronauts.
devotionalhooligan has done a great megapost of an Astronauts CD and indexed several KYPP links for more Astronauts recordings here:
http://devotionalhooligan.blogspot.com/2009/10/astronauts-peter-pan-hits-suburbs-cd.html
[A note for the eagle-eyed: the Here & Now track Nudge Up Double Deluxe on the "Folk In Hell" Fuck Off cassette indexed above is probably identical with the same track on H&N's Stolen Moments release.]
Even more Astronauts recordings can be found here:

Thanks a million, devotionholligan and penguin! Cheers, Dave Sez.
And, having searched for the Astronauts, let's not overlook the Entire Cosmos (for which thanks dlz1965 and pinkie!), here's some more, thanks again to the ever-resourceful penguin:
http://killyourpetpuppy.co.uk/news/?p=523 (full length Entire Cosmos and Astronauts sets)
and an Entire Cosmos EP:
http://killyourpetpuppy.co.uk/news/?p=458
and, following up on Blue Midnight, my favourite new discovery off the Love Not Devotion LP indexed above, it seems that Blue Midnight somehow spawned the Hamburger All Stars, so if you liked either of them, you should check this out:
http://killyourpetpuppy.co.uk/news/?p=233
Cheers penguin! Dave Sez.
@ Abitofchange23:
Excellent slideshow, man - cheers!
BTW, everyone, Here & Now's main London date is 27th May at Borderline in Soho. Nik Noodle tells me that the set is at least half an hour longer now, starting on Saturday at the Bournemouth show, so that's cool. If I had one negative thing to say about the Brighton gig, it's that the set wasn't long enough for any of the Space-Jams we like so much!!!
Hey tcarted, The Birkenhead 28/04/90 on Dime is seeding again if you are able to grab it for us.
Cheers

Did anyone get these, and, if so, could you kindly re-up them here? Cheers, Dave Sez.
This should be a link to H&N Progeny Fest in Leamington Spa, 2010:
http://www.mediafire.com/?835o3vfz12bn57j
...and as if to prove what a small world we inhabit, this Leamington show is actually my recording. They were magnificent on the day, even blowing Hawkwind off stage(who were billed as "The Elves of Silbury Hill" for some reason)
Check this one out from abitofchange - absolutely top-hole, chaps/chapesses!!!!

I know this has been upped before but this one was posted by Maclen on Dime and has tracklisting etc.. Follow the link:

Can't d/load Birkenhead 1990. Sorry dlz1965. Not seeding; not working for me anyway! Thanks a lot for splitting the Wasted Festival upload and adding 'wicked' art work. Really appreciated it.
I made some mp3's of Here & Now and Hawkwind at Stonehenge '84. Shall I post 'em?
@ tcarted - I for one would be well pleased with those MP3s of H&N / Hawks at Stonehenge '84, and I suspect I aint alone ;)
I'll join pinkie in voting for the mp3s of H&N / Hawks at Stonehenge '84, and I owe a(nother) big vote of thanks to dlz1965 for the guruubu tip and for recording the Leamington gig - the only chance for us unlucky non-UK based chaps to hear the new H&N line-up. Ta muchly! Cheers, Dave Sez.
Here ya go.... as promised.

Ta a million, tcarted; I'll be off to get the Stonehenge and Town & Country in just a tick. Meanwhile, Astronauts fans won't want to miss this, apparently soon to be remastered too:

Cheers, i vomit 4 u! Dave Sez.
Thanks for such a great post, I used to go to a lot of free festivals and Here and Now, Hawkwind seemed to always be playing which was brilliant. I haven't listened to them for ages so this has bought back alot of great memories, thanks again.
Oh yeh the last post, I also would love to hear the mp3s of Stonehendge'84 as was there, but the above link is dead ?. Cheers again www.ivomit4u.blogspot.com
Good to see this thread still going!!!!!!
Indeed, great to see so many people contributing and dropping in - how about a bet we're going to need another bottle of Thunderbird wine for the 200th comment before Christmas? Cheers, Dave Sez.
Yeah, Dave and Abitofchange23 - this aint your average post...saying that, however, If we could get this kind of participation going with future posts, or half as much, then that would be wonderful, would it not?
Thanks again to everyone and I look forward to future comments/posts ;)
Birkenhead 28.04.1990 for dlz1965 and friends -
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3XE29Y4H
Can anyone up Bomfest 2010 or Glasto 2004 with tracklisting etc..? I've got the wma versions as one long track but quality isn't great.... Can't find 'em on other sites either.
Blimey, if this goes on much longer, it will surely warrant a website of its own!! Many thanks to tcarted for the Birkenhead 1990 download, your a star. Any chance of re-upping the Stonehenge '84 link? I was there and don't remember a bloody thing apart from some scary Hells Angels stealing my tent pegs whilst I watched hopelessly. It wasn't all love n peace, maaaaan!
@dlz - yeah, I seem to remember it began to kick off very soon after we'd all arrived - me & my mates from (mostly) Reading had just got unpacked, put up a bender (not the most structurally sound I ever saw!) and visited the hotknife tent (or one of 'em), when some kind of disturbance was apparent further on down the main drag..
It didn't spoil the week for me, but I was made aware pretty quick that not everyone had left their proverbial guns at the door.
Very different era indeed, compared to the first couple of Glasto festies I'd heard about; but nothing was going to ruin it for the majority!!! Some of the best days of my life (so far).
I tried the stonehenge link again and it works ok. Make sure there's no gap at the end when copying it in to the address bar..
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ADCTG5QU
I was there as well. Hell's Angel split my mate's head open for no reason. He was ok after some hot knives!!
Thanks a million, tcarted, for the Crewe, Stonehenge and Birkenhead! As dlz1965 said, this is turning out to be a whole website in a comments column! But then again, I don't think we would have got such grreat feedback if it had been a standalone site ... the Stonehenge link is indeed working, and, a nice surprise, it included video that I didn't know existed - thanks tcarted for the mp3 version too. Cheers for now, Dave Sez.
Thanks tcarted for the Stonehendge link, it worked this time, really appreciate it.
Yeh the Angels spoilt it for a lot of us especially when they wouldn't let any of the Punk bands play,I remember them going round with wooden batons beating the shit out of people, for me taking too much mushroom cider etc didn't help matters either, but at least the Angels left after the weekend and then I Had fun! Cheers again. IV4U!
Thanks very much, been dreaming of a blog like this for years and now I've found it, Thanks for the "Theatre" & "Standing Forever", "Stolen Moments" & "Off The Cuff", respect, MARViTYN A*TASHE~DEMOON.
Nice one - this epic post has gone quiet of late - H&N are playing Soho Borderline on 27th (Friday) in cas anyone didn't catch the earlier comment...I chatted to Keith, Slim and Nik on face-ache recently and they are all aware of this post and heartily approve, which is cool, eh, Dave Sez?
@dlz 1965..Dave Sez mentioned some 1974/75 demos (I think it was) that you might posess..if you wanna e-mail me or arrange to send them to me I'll put them on MegaUpload? Let me know, mate.
Cheers all, and MARViTYN A*TASHE~DEMOON, you are welcome!!!
hey pinkie, man it's so very cool that you've been in contact with keith, slim and nik and that they are aware and heartily approve of the post!!
Yeah it's very cool, Edo, isn't it? I know Dave will be pleased too, as he likes to keep a low profile and doesn't use Facebook..doesn't need it - he's too busy, anyway..!
Take care man B-)
I hope you dont mind Dave but i put a link on my blog to this blog!!! if you do not approve I will remove it.
Many thanks
Abitofchange23
Hey Abitofchange, no problem at all! I'll add you to my blog roll as well. Cheers! Edo
Oh that's cool man; I was about to say it's Edo's blog..but you probably realised that! Anyone else out there, do take a look at abitofchange's blog - I'm following myself...It's in its very early stages, but I already like the cut of its Jib, wot wot??
And thanks, Edo, for being supportive. Oh, also abitofchange has a Youtube channel as some of you already know, with some damn fine tunes and slide shows:
http://www.youtube.com/user/abitofchange
I just wanted to add to something I noticed someone saying that 'Nudge Up Double Deluxe' on the "Folk In Hell" Fuck Off cassette indexed above is probably identical with the same track on H&N's Stolen Moments release...
This is not the case, it's a totally different live version...
Hello again, boys and girls! Sorry to have been a bit absent recently, pressures of work, blah blah. Indeed, pinkie, great to hear that the group know of the megapost, and here's to hoping that they'll come and leave some comments and index the post on their various sites. Thanks too to Anonymous, I think it was me who said that the two versions were identical ... cheers me dears and hoping to hear from you all soon, Dave Sez.
Hi again!!! i just found a blog with some Daevid Allen and Gong stuff....some goodies there!
http://halsprogressiverockblog.blogspot.com/search/label/Daevid%20Allen
@ Monsieur Un petit de Change...merci shitloads, geezer!! (btw, 'Shitload' is now an officially recognised unit of measurement).
Here's a new one - it's Here&Now live @ Thames Poly 1979-05-12 - Woolwich, UK.
The Tracklisting and other info is here:
http://planetgong.altervista.org/here/hn1979-05-12.htm
Track 5 isn't "Ali Baba", although there are strains of that song at the beginning; it's the Jam at the end of "Surgeon's Knife", the same as on "All Over The Show". Apart from that, the tracklisting seems accurate. I got the CD from a friend of mine at a Mick Farren & The Last Men Standing gig the other night, but it's definitely this one!!
So here you go - it's MP3@320..hope it's OK..let me know ;))Btw - it's f*kin amazing:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2CFDUFAM
Thanks for sharing. I pop into this site every now and again to see if it's still going!
I've been listening to 'new-ish' psych jam bands like Electric Moon and Vibravoid - keepin' up the spirit.
I found some F-i on Dime which I liked.
@ tcarted..sounds good ;)) I have two World Domination Enterprises gigs for y'all - I'll put them up soon...one of 'em was @ Brighton Zap in 1990/1 I was there and it was quite an experience!!
Wa-hay, thanks a million pinkie for the Thames Poly, can't wait to crank it up. I note from the planetgong.altervista link you posted that we can all enjoy this gig thanks again to the great Gilberto who also gave us the Toulouse 1977 Planet Gong gig; I shall have to write to him and thank him for both!
And apologies to you pinkie and abitofchange; I thought you knew about Hal's Gong blog already - I've certainly already steered ernestembryo over there re Steve Hillage - you'll find three live Hillage gigs from 77-79 here: http://ernestembryo.blogspot.com/2011/03/steve-hillage-live-in-concert-7679.html
Hal's is indeed a treasure trove; please leave a comment referring people back here, so that everyone gets to share.
And yah! World Domination Enterprises gigs sound really good - by the by, if you check the comments to edo's Maserati post, pinkie, you'll find a recent gig just posted.
Cheers me dears, Dave Sez.
oh wow cheers Dave - I'm off there now, and will rip & upload those two tonight if poss...this post seems to have spluttered back to life ;))
Btw, there are some great photos of H&N and others, incl. Nik T, @ Sonic Rock Solstice..they're on Face-Ache, but I should be able to d/l and link them here for those of you not on F/B..I'll ask the person who took em; sure it'll be cool. Bye for now you lot =D
OH! Btw, if you go to "abitofchange"'s blog, he's got some great links to Photobucket and Youtube where you'll find some superb slide shows of Stonehenge/Travelling people and some H&N tracks to accompany them (and some other cool stuff to boot)...so why not drop by and click that "FOLLOW" button; I know he'd appreciate it :))xxx
Cheers for the Thames poly link pink!! (that rhymes!!)
And cheers for the ad for my blog!!! Still only me talking to myself!!!!!!!
..and me! And Dave sez!! It's only just up and running mate, and, like I said, I think it's great to start off treating it like you would a journal, in a manner of speaking...I still scribble in a journal the old-fashioned way too - do you?
I just enjoy wielding a pen still; or pencil/biro etc...sorry - been up all night - l8r ;)))x
Glad you enjoyed the Thames Poly '79..good innit? Take care ;-)
Hi All
I've been away for a long time but am back and delighted to see this thread still has legs!
Here & Now's show from Stonehenge 1979 has just been posted on Dimeadozen. If anyone feels inclined to grab it and re-post here you would be spreading a lot of love.
@ Pinkie, the 1975 demos you mentioned ages ago, i've just listened to them for the first time in 10 years and i'm not now convinced they are what they purport to be. There have been demos circulating in trading circles for years but the tracks I have don't tally with what is out there.
Dave sez ... thanks Dave for the heads up. I'm really glad that some of the stuff I've shared has found its way here - whats the point of it, if not to be heard.
I've mailed Dave a list of things that might be nice here for the future.
One thing, and it has been mentioned on & off here - there are sources for H&N / Planet Gong CDs, Vinyl etc that mean that the musicians get some money. I support these & hope you will
http://www.freeloverecords.co.uk (KifKif's site)
http://www.planetgong.co.uk (royalties paid)
Without support, music dies. Do as you would be done by.
gilbert sometimes kashi
Dead chuffed to see an old mate back - welcome again dlz1965! - and dead chuffed to see that the Great Gilberto has joined us, to whom we owe the raw tape for the Planet Gong live '77 LP as well as pinkie's latest post, the Thames Polytechnic gig in '79. Sharing is caring indeed, and to put gilbert's mind at rest and reiterate a point, the megaposts - and this one particularly - are not intended to simply upload available works for free - there's enough of that goin' on already, so if you sweat a bit, you may well find: just not here! Unreleased, yes; out-of-print, yes; but as I said above in the intro: "Of all the bands out there, having given so much for free, Here & Now are definitely not the band to rip off now." And look what we've all got together here - must be the best web archive of rarissimo stuff from fans to fans for free. Cheers to all you contributors - quite warms the cockles of me heart!
(Now to beaver off to email to see what goddies Gilbert suggests, wa-hay!)
PS: And a gentle request to any kind Dimers out there, can anyone get the Stonehenge '79 gig dlz1965 mentioned? Pinkie or I can handle the posting, just we're a bit Ned Luddish here on torrenting ... and dlz1965, if you think those early demos are worth listening to, could you kindly get'em to pinkie or me for all to share? ... won't sleep nights now that I know they exist .... cheers mateys, Dave Sez.
@ Gilberto - cheers for those links re:royalties & support for the artists...I think we've been quite careful not to upload anything currently in-print (e.g. the remastered "Give & Take" and "All Over the Show" CDs), but if there are other ways to give something back, then that's a very good thing; I know Dave Sez concurs)
Demos 75 & May 76, also Stonehenge 79 sent to Dave.
Here soon no doubt
Can't upload from work, so they'll be up tonight - thanks a million, Gilbert! Dlz1965 - maybe you'd like to check if these are what you have? These'll be m4a, maybe you have mp3s? Cheers for now, Dave Sez.
Well, an exciting day, thanks to gilbert: here are the 1975 and 1976 Here & Now demos! They're in m4a format which is easily converted to mp3 (or other formats) with this free converter:
http://www.maniactools.com/soft/m4a-to-mp3-converter/
A couple of words of advice first though - don't install the "Ask Toolbar" which will be offered during installation, and before converting m4a files (the converter can batch-process many files at once), play the m4a with Winamp, whilst it's playing click on File>View file info to see the bitrate and then set the converter mp3 bitrate accordingly - there is NO point converting a 128 kbps m4a (which these are) to anything higher than mp3 @128. Also create a destination folder on your hard disc before opening the converter, Add Files, set the bitrate with the Setup tab at bottom right, click Specify folder and select your destination folder and click Convert, located somewhat confusingly up on the top bar on the right. Bingo! You may also want to set the converter to automatically clear the file list once conversion is complete - click File > Options. Easy peasy!
And now for the goodies: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9FJSMI87
Don't forget to thank maclen and gilbert for this here!
Stonehenge 1979 coming tonight, cheers me dears, Dave Sez.
And, for dlz1965, gilbert's been spreading a lot of love: Stonehenge 1979, m4a @128, convert as above if you want. Thanks, gilbert! Cheers, Dave Sez.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V5QUV2F0
@ Gilbert - thankyou very, very much indeed for these ;)))
And thanks to Dave of course...cheers for the audio converter; the last one I tried was crap! I'll have a go with it later; been up all night so I can barely type right now @_@
Hey Gilbert, the Stonehenge '79 is fantastic so HUGE thanks to you and cyber pints all round.
As to the '75/'76 Demos, these are the recordings I already have but i'm not totally convinced it is actually Here & Now we can hear. The prominent electric piano steers us perilously close to nasty jazz rock territory and leaves me wondering if these recordings actually belong to the earlier '74/'75 band known as HereNow who were apparently a bit jazzier . This would pre-date the arrival of Keith & Steffe(in August 1975). Just a thought but i'll bet someone out there knows the truth.
Love n hugs all round.
@ dlz1965 - "intrigued of Brighton" here...Interesting!!!
Ok here's some World Domination Enterprises for you...it's three gigs + an encore(4tracks altogether) all on the one CD/File...sorry about that; you can always use one of them separator thingies if you want to. I think someone might have another/ better version of the Fulham Greyhound gig for us at a later date :)
1.Live@ Brighton Zap 1991:
St.Etienne/ Look out Jack/ Catalogue Clothes/ That Woman/ Asbestos Lead Asbestos/ Message For You People/ Ghetto Cruiser/ Hotsy Girl/ Funkytown (followed by local radio interview).

You lot are not gonna believe this, but MegaUpload have somehow wiped nearly all my files!! Which means that most of the stuff up here from me is gone...I'm sure I have all the original files/Cds, etc, so I'll have to work my way through and see what's missing, then re-post, which may take a few days - I CAN'T believe this!!
Apologies :(
Tut tut tut, can't allow these nasty people to get us down, so here's the first repost, Stolen Moments, a band-released 1981 cassette with studio demos of later "Fantasy Shift" tracks: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8ONYP31E
Ta ta pinkie for providin'!
But I should say: every other Dave Sez post is now dead due to lack of interest and contribution. Gang of Four: dead. Magazine: dead. Ultravox: dead. Burnel: dead. My private Indonesian music: dead. And, painfully, Television:dead. All dead. Point final, a la ligne.
Ta, Dave..the ones that went down from my files on MegaUpload were: "Stolen Moments" (which you just replaced..ta mate), "Theatre", "Off The Cuff" (2xCD), "Standing Forever", "Dog In Hell E.P.", "The Entire Cosmos", "Wasted Festival 2004", AND "Thames Poly '79".
I can replace them, but, if you don't mind me leaning on you, Dave, I'll leave it to you to do the honours with one or two...to avoid confusion as much as anything. (let me know if there's any probs and I'll take over of course ;))x
D'you know what I think may be a good idea at some point, Dave?
Why don't we set up a "H&N Megapost Pt II". We could post all the active links from this one, and, if need be, re-up one or two :))
This would avoid too much confusion, and make it easy for newcomers to find everythng they're after without having to work through all the comments here; lemme know what you think?
Sorry for the bummer, guys - got right slammed last night, knowing I had nasty dentistry to suffer this morning. Wasn't such a good idea - I don't recommend dentists and hangover combined. Just difficult to keep up the enthusiasm sometimes, a pity my other posts aren't as active as this one - but then, on the bright side, this one is fantastic. Cheers mateys, Dave Sez.
Next repost of pinkie's uploads: Theatre, mp3s @320, here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T268VXV8
Cheers, Dave Sez.
OK, thanks Dave for "Stolen Moments; and here are all the others; all@320...see above comments for details (The only one I can't seem to track down is the "Wasted Festival 2004"..if you could put that back up Dave, that'd be great ;))

Dave, I was thinking... because of all the links that've gone down/been re-upped,and all the comments in between, this post is becoming increasingly difficult to negotiate, especially for people new to it...why don't we get all available links here and start a Here&Now Megapost II, just to put all the links together again...maybe not now, but in the future when we feel we're close to exhausting the available archives? Just a thought ;))
And I'd just like to say on all of our behalf what a great job you've done with this post, and all your other "Megaposts", incl. Ultravox(John Foxx), Gang Of Four, Magazine, JJ Burnel, etc; Please don't feel as if you're "Shouting in the silence" as you put it on the GO4 comments. Others will come along and enthuse about/contribute to these posts, as well as those who have already been there. You are very much valued & appreciated for what you do, Dave, and certainly not on yer todd ;)))xx
Oh, slightly crossed wires there, Dave! I put "Theatre" up as well...never mind, though; two links are better than one I s'pose, as 'backup' :)
And, I noticed that I've kinda repeated myself there about the "H&N Megapost II"! You aint the only one guilty of "drink & post"!!!
Cheers all ;)))
Oh and I forgot to thank you for the Television Megapost, Dave...probably my favourite of the whole lot!! I'll be looking for new material to add to each of the megaposts, and I'd encourage anyone else out there to do the same..there's so much more out there!
Sorry!!! (clog clog)
I just wanted to clear up that '75/'76 Demos thing mentioned by dlz1965 in the earlier shout; I contacted Keith The Bass on Facebook yesterday to ask him about them (I listed all the tracks to make sure), and he said:
"Yes..They were actually the first incarnation of Here&Now, whose common thread with what went on to become the "classic" line-up was Kif-Kif and Paul Noble...Also in that line-up were Dick Healey, Joss and Joly..."
So yeah, those demos are Here & Now, but an earlier incarnation, as far as I can tell from Keith's explanation...
I sent him the link again, btw, so he and the band can have another look at this ever - expanding post!!!
Not sure if this has been posted - but a short film of H&N at Southampton Uni in 1978 filmed by the uni film society (with added effects!)
http://www.myspace.com/video/kev-ellis/here-and-now-live-1978-floating-free/19818900
Thanks pinkie for being my shrink - constant toothpain plays havoc with ya cosmic karma, doesn't it? Been too quiet lately round the other posts, but I perked (and pinked) up a lot after Mona's return to the Television blog which may revive it.
On your several thingies, first up - grand effort, matey, on reupping most of the stuff gone down. Excellent housekeeping, Jeeves! {;-)
Secondly, here's the Wasted Punk Festival 2004 you were missing, mp3s taken from a vidcam recording, so quality ain't great but they're out there and now up here at:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4H9RG49V
thanks to kashi63!
Third up, nice piece of Pinkie Panther work on the demos! Keith's comments on the demos must refer to the '75 demos only; dlz1965's said that he and Steffie joined in Aug '75, so they're on the 76 ones, and on the Primal Tapes demos, another bunch of '76 demos that hopefully will surface some time.
Lastly, yeah, I've also been thinking about how to tidy the blog up again, get it into chronological order and so on. We should really also tag each of the gigs with a quality/format/bitrate/download size code, quality being A+ A- B+ B- or C (unlistenable ... but historic!).
Next step: how? Easiest and probably best is that I ask edo if he'd mind posting a second updated megapost in parallel, leaving this one as an archive, and we leave a note in the comments here to say where we've moved on and up to. Or maybe edo can edit the megapost intro text so that I could update the recordings list but leave the comments untouched ... I rather like tracking the total, looks like we're heading towards 200 ... and more importantly, several contributors to the pot, and more to come!
Anyone out there have any comments or suggestions?
Cheers for now, Dave Sez.
Hey Pinkie,
Just listening to your World Domination Enterprises posts and am not quite sure what to make of this ramshakle noise. Pink Floyd they ain't!! I guess it lends further credence to Mark Perry's adage that ANYONE can form a band regardless of musical skill. Thanks for your efforts.
Great film, JohnnyM - best footage I've seen of vintage H&N! Anyone know how it can be saved to preserve it even if the link goes down? Cheers, Dave Sez.
@dlz1965 heheh yeah, it sure aint pink floyd!! I was at that Brighton gig and loved every minute, but, yeah, I guess you did have to be there (my ears took two days to recover!) The album "Let's Play Domination" is fabulous...very, very noisy, a "racket" to some ears; but fantastic imho.
As for musicianship, Kif Kif had nothing to prove as far as that side of things went, and the rhythm section also had plenty of talent, but they wanted to do something different; something original, with a message to boot, and I think they achieved that in spades.
Every time I hear "Asbestos Lead Asbestos", I still get a thrill...Meat Beat Manifesto did a great cover of it - here:

Oh! And Dave, thanks for the encouragement and suggestions - I'll go along with that...let me know what you're thinking of doing and when, and anything I can do to help, I will mate ;))
Cheers Everyone :)xxx
If you download install Speedbit video downloader you can save the Video Clip to your hard drive.
I've been having great fun downloading all the Mp3's as my Here and Now tape collection is still being shipped out here to Aus. Takes me back to the great days of Free Fests and spending lots of time blissed out listening to the boys. It's odd but the only tape I had with me got packed by accident and it's Past Masters Volume 1, most of which is already posted here.
Keep up the good work guys it's really appreciated
Chers Bev
Two more Here & Now shows just up on Sugarmegs site in WAV format. One is Stonehenge '79(recently shared here as Mp3)and a compilation of jams and encores from various 1978 shows that are unavailable elsewhere(as far as I know).
I'm off to see a fantastic double bill in Manchester tonight - Tame Impala & Wolf People(who are magnificent - check 'em out).
Hope to go to Bomfest next week to see Here & Now. Anyone else going?
@dlz1965:Thanks!!! :)
Have a good one tonight!!
Thanks for the tip-off dlz1965 (tho', NB: sadly in WMA @ 40 kbps rather than WAV @ 1000+) - I shall look forward to hearing this.
And here's another great contribution thanks to gilbert: the March 1976 demos (not the May 1976 demos posted above) which were released as the Primal Tapes on the Past Masters cassette - includes the earliest version of Addicted! Thanks muchly, gilbert!

Cheers, Dave Sez.
Huge thanks to Gilbert(again!)for The Primal Tapes demo which affords an enlightening glipse into the past. An extra track from these sessions("Near & How")was included on the Past Masters casette and I am hoping to get a copy of it soon.
Indeed, thanks to Gilbert again, and if you could find us a full copy of Past Masters with that extra track that would be great, dlz1965! Tho' I wonder ... I haven't heard of a separate release for the Primal Tape - never seen a cassette cover, etc, except the mention on the Past Masters cover which doesn't mention Space Spastic No 2 - could that be Nere and Now which is mentioned? A mystery waiting to be solved ... cheers, Dave Sez.
The "Nere & Now" track mentioned above is more commonly known as "Near & How" and is usually a lengthy, riff heavy jammy workout that the band were still playing live as recently as 2008.
On a slightly different tack, there have been a few more Here & Now shows posted on Dimeadozen if anyone out there could be kind enough to share with us here ...
Cheers all
Here & Now have a profile on Sound Awesome - it's quite a new site, I think..I just joined - have a look:

I'm pretty sure the correct date for this gig was 2nd November '82 and was the first tour with ex Dangerous Girls drummer Rob Peters.
It sounds like a sounboard source.
Thanks again, dlz..you've contributed so much great stuff. Here's a rare pic of Keith:
