Master and Pupil - Balinese Gender Duets (2011) from Dave Sez!

It's been a while since I've heard from Dave Sez so I was very pleased to receive this web-exclusive Balinese recording he made. Highly recommended! Check it out and please give a thanks to him!

Master and Pupil - Balinese Gender Duets (2011)
---
I Wayan Sula, master
and
I Dewa Gede Adi Kusuma Triananda, pupil.
---
Gender is a traditional Balinese and Indonesian ten brass-bar metallophone with bamboo echo chambers under the bars, an instrument which normally forms part of a larger gamelan orchestra. Gender is more rarely played as a duet of two instruments with the two players sitting face-to-face. That is the case here: these are two music lessons (tracks 1-8, 9-13) of master and pupil as a duet.

What a fantastic, amazing offering. THANK YOU, edo & Dave Sez! What a treat to have a chance to listen-in on an intimate duet played on instruments normally part of a large orchestra.

This will definitely be the first thing I play once the download is complete. Right now, I'm heading right off to the other post you've mentioned. Thanks again, guys.

Most welcome, RRR and yotte. Ernst was a pseudonym of owlqaeda's used in his comments to my previous Balinese field recording, so I'm teasing him! Cheers, Dave Sez.

Thanks! Downloading this now, haven't listened to it yet. The field recordings by Dave Sez are superb, one of my current favorites. Please keep posting these amazing rarities.

Thank you for this! Beautiful recording, what an absolute treasure. I wonder, if to the Balinese, this is like the equivalent of us taping our 5th grade piano recital.. they'd probably think us strange for digging it so much. But who cares! I love it. Thanks for posting!

Beuatiful. Thank you very much for the care and time that went into this, and thank you for sharing it so freely with us like this. This sounds wonderful!

Glad everyone's enjoying it! I think it's beautiful too, and your comments encourage me to get it together again to do another recording this year ... cheers, Dave Sez.

Although my megaupload link has now been killed by the Net monsters, lucky's links are still live:

And this is a fully-authorised release of the music, offered free by the musicians and the engineer ...

Cheers, Dave Sez.

nice one, Dave...I sent this link (before Megaupload was murdered) to Nik Nimbus, H&N drummer, one night recently, when we were talking music...he likes a bit of Balinese, does the Nimbus :D
